| The
Central Alabama Fair Housing Center (CAFHC) is a non-profit
agency created in 1995 to ensure equal housing opportunities
for all residents of central Alabama.
CAFHC serves residents of Autauga, Barbour,
Bullock, Butler, Chambers, Chilton, Coffee, Coosa, Covington,
Crenshaw, Dale, Dallas, Elmore, Geneva, Greene, Hale, Henry,
Houston, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry,
Pike, Russell, Sumter, Tallapoosa, and Wilcox Counties.
CAFHC has a two-fold mission:
To
promote understanding of the Fair
Housing Act. CAFHC’s educational activities include
speaking to community groups and individuals most likely
to experience discrimination, and maintaining a strong working
relationship with housing professionals. We believe that
understanding the Fair Housing Act is the key to compliance.
To
enforce the Fair
Housing Act. We stand ready to assist in investigating
credible complaints, filing administrative complaints with
the U. S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and mediating
disputes. CAFHC’s testing
program provides valuable, objective evidence of discrimination.
Additionally, CAFHC recruits and trains attorneys throughout
the region to bring civil lawsuits against housing providers
when other efforts to end discriminatory practices fail.
